~Harvard Business School Case Study (HBS)~

This semester, we are having a case study which is Harvard Business School Study.
All section 1 and section 2 friends were having our discussion on 14th of December at 2pm in BK 2.
Before the discussion,we were divided in 10 groups,5 groups from section 1 and the rest were from section 2.
Our group have 7 members:

Before having our discussion, we were started our discussion based on the paper given in group. Read through the paper, I know about Symbian, Apple, Google, Microsoft and so on...We have to understand all their strategy, advance, threats and so on...
During the discussion, 10 questions were given and each group will have to study one from them.




  1. Strategies taken by Symbian,Google,Apple in striving to lead the mobile industry.
  2. Lessons learned from Harvard Bussiness School Case Study
  3. New entry company such as Google & Apple become threat to Symbian company.How?
  4. Discuss the key players in mobile phone industries and how they influence each other.
  5. As the future IT professional,how this case study change your view about your career?
  6. What innovations can be introduce in improving mobile phone industries in terms of community uses and work?
  7. Discuss the Symbian's situation based on Porter's 5 Forces model.What are your recommendation?
  8. Analyse  Symbian's situation using SWOT analysis technique.What is your opinion about company situation.
  9. Discuss on key Symbian Excutives(exhibit 3).What is your opinion about them?Give suggestions.
  10. Discuss on the mobile market share based on the statistics given.




Our group have to discuss about "How new entry company become threat to Symbian company.".
Threats:


  1. Google, Apple, Microsoft, RIMM, Palm
  2. Google and Open Sources:
    • Encouraged development of third party apps.
  3. Apple:
    • Had substantial power over network operations.
    • Each phone had to register with Apple.
    • Iphone provide "multi touch" interaction and motion sensor.
    • Offer third app to iphone user.
  4. Microsoft:
    • Financial support(Cash support)
    • Large network of third party PC developers potntial in building apps.
    • Motorola had left Symbian company and join Microsoft in year 2005.
  5. RIMM:
    • Offered BB e-mail services to non-BB devices.
    • Always-on mobile e-mail devices.
  6. Palm:
    • Intuitive user interface
    • Reliable synchronous with PC's
    • Long battery life
    • Modest cost
