*Database Administrator*


Job Description:
  • Database administrators work with database software to find ways to  store, organise, and manage data.
  • They are responsible for the performance, integrity, backup and security of a database.
  • They identify user needs, set up computer databases, and test systems. They ensure that systems perform as they should and add people to the system as needed. 
  • They also plan security measures. 
  • They also need some additional role requirements  that are:


    • planning
    • troubleshooting
    • development
  • The database approach incorporates the following principles:
    • data remains consistent across the database;
    • data is clearly defined;
    • users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs;
    • there is provision for data security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency).

Working Hours:
  • Working hours typically include regular unsocial hours. 
  • Overnight and weekend work is often necessary as maintenance and development work needs to be undertaken during periods of low usage. 
  • Often on call if a critical problem occurs.
